About Us
Precision Race Services, Inc. (PRS) was started in January of 1992 by David Decker and Jim Kelly. PRS first customer was Riley & Scott in Indianapolis, IN (now Riley Technologies, Mooresville, NC) and we designed, manufactured, and installed the electrical system for their SCCA Trans-Am chassis manufacturing program. Another significant race car chassis manufacturer, Pratt & Miller Engineering became a PRS customer in 1993. To date both of these companies have enjoyed great success in the racing community and are still customers of PRS. Chrysler came to PRS in 1995 and contracted us to develop the electrical system for their very successful Viper GTS-R race program. Later we worked with Chrysler to develop and supply the electrical systems for the Viper Competition Coupe program. Chrysler is also still a customer of ours to this date.
Through the years we have worked on a large number of different motorsports related projects. Over all of these years none of our customers have ever suffered a DNS or DNF due to a PRS electrical system fault. Our customers have won the Daytona 500 and the NASCAR Championship. They have also have won the GTS class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 10 times and PRS had wiring in 30% of the entire Le Mans field in 2000. PRS customers have won the overall 24 Hours of Daytona 15 of the last 19 years. We have also designed and manufactured electrical systems for competitors in CART, IRL, ALMS, Grand American Road Racing, IMSA, NHRA, SCCA, and others. Other customers have used PRS electrical systems in Hydroplanes, Offshore Racing Boats, racing Airplanes, and MotoGP motorcycles.
Hand in hand with the motorsports work, PRS has had the opportunity to bring our expertise to the production car world as well. Lear Automotive contracted PRS to design, manufacture and install the complete electrical system in the first nine (9) Ford GT Workhorse vehicles. We have also been the electrical system supplier to a number of Chrysler programs including the prototype Viper VGX program, and segments of the Tomahawk motorcycle and ME 412 prototype vehicle. PRS was the harness supplier for the Mopar Neon SRT Turbo Toys Stage 2 aftermarket packages. PRS has produced Hybrid transmission wiring harnesses for GM as well as prototype ABS system wiring harnesses for Robert Bosch Corporation. In addition to the Ford GT program PRS has worked with Ford’s transmission group to design and manufacture wiring for their Baja Truck testing. Currently PRS is involved with many programs with Ford including;
Mustang “R” race program supplying upgraded engine harnesses and sensors
GT350R race program supplying the complete vehicle electrical system
Cobra Jet drag car program supplying the complete vehicle electrical system
PRS is a dealer for MoTeC products and Ole Buhl Racing Products ECU and Power Management systems. As both a Motec and OBR dealer PRS sells and supports the full line of Motec and OBR components from Engine controllers to Data logger systems. PRS has worked with Ford to integrate the Motec ACL data system into their development programs. This CAN based device has greatly improved the Ford engineers’ ability to log and analyze vehicle development data from multiple inputs including all Vehicle CAN Bus data, GPS receivers, video systems, thermocouples and other sensor information under one logger system. The Motec data analysis tools can produce maps of the vehicle testing path, and even export that data to Goggle Earth web applications.
